Paris Political Scene by Notre Dame Cathredral copy1200

Paris Political Scene by Notre Dame Cathedral was photographed in March 2016, at the height of the U.S. presidential campaign.

What interested me about the image is how the political signage visually dissects and divides the otherwise iconic medieval cathedral. The poster for French politician Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, in fact, almost perfectly splits the image in two.

To me the photograph hints at the deeper currents—political, economic, and social—that swirl beneath scenes that appear, on the surface, timeless, beautiful, and serene.
